Linda D. has landed her dream job as an HR professional at a new startup company! After expanding her search and dedicated efforts during an 18 month period, Linda networked with HR professional organizations, interviewed for a variety of HR positions and persevered. She recently announced, with a smile as wide as the sky, that she will be Associate Director, Human Resources at Mitra Biotech. The 50+ Job Seekers was one of many resources that Linda utilized to enhance her job seeking skills and to widen her network….She willingly shared many leads and thoughtful perspectives to our group…..Here’s what she had to say about her job search:

Conducting a job search is hard, exhausting work and can sometimes be isolating and frustrating.  All the literature and teachings out there say that networking is the number one way to find a job since a very small percentage of jobs are actually posting.  However, to me, the very word ‘networking’ made me cringe.  I am not one to seek out help nor to sell myself. However,  is so important for a job seeker to get out of their house and meet other people and the 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group is one way to accomplish that goal in a friendly, supportive and non-intimidating environment.  The Burlington Group, led by Debbi Hope, was all of that and more.  Debbi brings her wealth of experience in the business world and as a coach to the group along with her natural, calming demeanor; starting each meeting with a relaxation exercise.

I have found that attending the Burlington Group provided me with insight from others and also allowed me to share my experiences and expertise as well.  I know I am one who gets fulfillment from helping others, even when I’m struggling.  We had topics each meeting that were important to our search from LinkedIn profiles to 30 second commercials/elevator pitch, etc., that were helpful in keeping us focused and moving forward in our search.

After almost a year and a half (with time off for surgery and recovery), I did start a new job as an Associate Director of Human Resources at Mitra Biotech,  a small biotech start-up doing great things with immune-oncology.  My confidence came back the second I walked in the door on my first day.  Everyone has been warm and welcoming and I have dived right in!

So, thank you Debbi, Audrey and all my fellow job seekers for your support and encouragement.  Keep looking UP and take time to look at the world around you – especially now that Spring is here.  It is a new beginning!  Best of luck.
